stevie wonder was the DP

I'm working on a project where the dP didnt notice a large amount of crap on the lens, and i'm expected to digitally remove these spots. Ive obviously done this will still images in photoshoppe but never on a film project.

The film was shot on a P2
Im cutting with studio 2, on the latest desktop Quad xeon mac.
I dont have after effects installed, but i have motion obviously.

what is my best course of action to remove these spots in a timely manner?
Can it be done in FCP?

why are you "expected" to fix it??????

seems the DP should take some liability here. like also mentioned, a re-shoot is ultimately the best option, otherwise you'll be rotoscoping every frame of every shot. what is your post budget???

i can't offer any other suggestions until someone comes up with the perfect "schputz filter" for post work. of course, when that day comes, we'll all be out of a job because a client would also then be able to just put on a metal helmet, dream of the perfect project, and out it will pop from his mind-meld.

p.s. i forgot to add in the last one that i am a huge fan of Stevie Wonder. i have his first 10 albums, but you're right, as a DP he pretty much sucks.

Take a look at this:

http://www.chv-plugins.com/cms/Fx-Script/Repair-collection/Repair-collectio...

It's the "Repair collection" of plug ins from CHV.

Presumably the dirt on the lens doesn't move around, so perhaps fixable with one of these.

Be warned - long render times.

Best

The answer here is to quote such an insanely high rate to fix the footage, that they have no choice but to reshoot...

You shouldn't be "expected" to do anything here... it's the DP who screwed up...

This "we'll fix it in post" attitude REALLY has to stop.

Is it fixable? Possibly. But as noted, it will take a LOT of time, and cost a LOT of money. Reshooting would be far simpler.

I had a buddy who was handed 8 tapes from location and the guys said "oh, hey, we forgot to turn on the microphones. You can fix that, right?"

Riiiiiight.
