Speed changes disappearing

I have a client that is moving projects FCP 5.1.4 TO FCP 6. They are saying that when they do the lose the Speed changes they did to any clips. Has anyone encountered this and do you know why it would happen?

Thanks.

Yes... it happened.

The software went though a thorough rewrite, therefore, any special effects like speed changes probably won't work. There's always going to be growing pains with new versions.

The only thing I can suggest is to mark your old timeline with notes on the speed changes and when you convert to FCP6, the markers will help you adjust for the correct speed changes.

yes this also happened to my project.

I spoke with apple and they suggested that it is a problem with the way i created the project file (although they were not specific) and suggested that this means that it is not a problem with the software.

nice...

They also recommended not upgrading during a project as "these things can happen" - probably good advice really, but I just wanted to use color to grade my project.

not very professional of them to release software that is so bugged out!

on the other hand though, my ipod looks great ;)

I have waited to upgrade to FCS 2 until I finished all of my current projects. However, I might need to go back to an old project to make updates in the future, one of which has quite a few speed changes. I also have a project that I am hoping to recapture at HD resolution in the future. It was originally edited in DV. That project also has speed changes. Will exporting XML files from FCP 5.1 and importing those into FCP 6 preserve things any better? Are there any known workarounds for the speed change bug?

Thanks!

Can't say that I have taken the time to see if this works or not.

BUT, I have placed markers on the timeline with the speed changes and made notations on the markers of the correct speeds for those clips. That way when an upgrade is done and the speeds of those clips are readjusted, I can then adjust those to its original speeds and re-render correctly.
