FCP 7 on Yosemite
on Jul 19, 2016 at 10:50:16 pm

Early 2008 MacPro 3,1_2.8GHZ_22GB RAM_Xeon_Quad-Core. Ran FCP 7 Originally in Lion with an ATI X1900 Card.
Now in Yosemite with a GTX 780 Card modified for apple boot screen.

I have moved to Adobe for most video projects but sometimes need to go back to FCP 7 (like so many) occasionally to do some re-edits. I have had some success with this but recently had an old project that works fine in lion on my ATI Card, but when opened in Yosemite with my GTX card it gives me constant "out of memory" issues when rendering. The codec in this timeline is Apple ProRes and the project size is only 6.8MB. There are no large still images, and all of the stills are RGB. After trying everything I could think of to get past the "out of memory" issue, I took out my GTX, and booted back into lion with my ATI card and everything was fine again. (everything renders without issues)

I also recently had to open an older long form lecture with some slides in FCP 7 on Yosemite, and I noticed that way fewer of the slides rendered in real time. In Lion with my ATI Card the entire sequence rendered in real time, now in Yosemite and my GTX only about half of the sequence renders in real time.

Do you think this is an issue with 32bit OS (Lion) vs 64bit OS (Yosemite), or does it have to do with my graphics card, or something else???

Anybody have an idea???

Did you try deleting preferences for FCP7?

I deleted the preferences and it didn't seem to help. I also searched for corrupted files by copying small parts of my sequence into a new sequence with the same settings, but still couldn't get things to render without memory error.

FCP 7 seems to use more memory in Yosemite then it does in Lion. Is this behavior normal?

Post a Message.

I haven't seen this. But YMMV-- plugins, configuration, etc.
