Adding audio to timeline, after adding just video
on Nov 19, 2010 at 7:35:14 pm

Hello,

Here is my situation; I dropped a bunch of video clips into my timeline WITHOUT the corresponding audio, thinking I didn't want any nat sounds....

Looking at it now, I want those nat sounds, and am wondering if there is a short cut to dropping the audio into the timeline with the corresponding video without having to pull each clip again from the viewer.

Is this possible?

Thanks for any help,

Paul

did you use the in and out points in the canvas before dropping them to the timeline or did you drop the full clip to the timeline and edit on the timeline?

I don't know of any automatic way. If I had to do it, I'd use the track selector to select only the video track, but patch audio, then do the following for every clip:
mark clip (x)
go to in (shift i)
match frame (f)
mark in (i)
overwrite (F10)
next clip (arrow up)
A pain? Sure. But you'll never forget your audio again. Not everything can be automatic, not even in FCP. Maybe there is an automatic way - be a whole lot cooler if (there was).

Good luck,
D

Instead of doing it the proper way with match frame, I set an approximate in/out in the viewer and pull the audio clip into the timeline, right click and move into sync. Then I drag the audio ends to match the video clip.

Hey, it works! And that wasn't half as difficult as learning how to make the F10 button work on this keyboard!

Thanks for your help,

Paul
