Unable to initialize video deck
on Sep 3, 2010 at 7:43:27 am

I just started to work here and they have a camera Sony HVR-V1/VIP I have to capture a film that made the guy before me. The tape is mini DV and is recorded under DVcam (that is what it says on screen).
The settings of my camera are:

Audio CH SEL
In/Out REC
Component: 1080i

I am using final cut 7, working under a new imac, the cable i connect with the camera has usb. When I try to capture on final cut it says "unable to initialize video deck" (see capture)

And I cant capture anything. The truth is I dont connect a camera with FC since long time ago, but I never had a problem like this before. I don´t know if it is a thing about the settings. I had tried different settings:

DVPAL anamórfic (see capture)
DVC PRO HD 1080i50 (see capture)
HDV (see capture)(In this one it says"device is nos connected or capture preset is not correct") I supose it is because the tape dvcam

It is rare but in Video Play Back it says "missing apple firewire pal"

I had tried:

The computer recognices the camera but I cant capture in imove also
I tried different cables
I tried different ports, and made sure all of them work correctrly
shot down and turned on both, the camera and computer
I tried starting the play botton in camera at the same moment click on capture now (I believe that is a rumor)
I refreshed A/V devices

I hope somebody can help me as I am really desperate!!!

You can't capture from tape with a USB cable for starters. Needs to be FireWire. It sounds like the recording is DVCAM, and once connected you should be able to use the easy setup for DV and capture without a problem.

I am having a similar problem of "Unable to initialize video deck. You may still log offline clips or use Capture Now." I am using a Sony DSR-11 that has worked in the past and still working on other machines. I tried the same firewire cable and made my mac successfully talk to another mac with ethernet cables unplugged and wifi turned off. In FCP 7 I tried DV-NTSC and the DV-NTSC Basic and the DV-NTSC NDF. FCP still did not recognize the deck even being there. I made sure that wireframe on the canvas was checked and that the canvas was not running off the screen. I did not have the log and capture widow open and hidden. Under the view toolbar on external monitor I have all frames checked. Do you have any other suggestions? Thanks for your time and support.
