So, this is new. I'll try to run a movie through compressor and usually it goes great, but lately, it just fails, with only a tiny "Failed: 3x crash service down" note in the corner of the history pane. I've run Compressor Repair and this email gets sent to me automatically:

A service in your Apple Qmaster cluster "This%20Computer" has failed. This service had the following identifiers:
Service Name: Edit One
On Machine Name: Edit-One.local
Service ID: DYJ5T3D6-7JY0-85E3-R2D2-289658855E9G
Service Type: Compressor
Service Kind: servicecontroller:com.apple.stomp.transcoder
Service Address: tcp://127.0.0.1:62458

I've checked and made sure that qmaster sharing was off. Nothing seems to work.

we've just started having this 'Failed 3x crash host service down' problem the past few days..

we're trying to compress our 90 minute documentary.. all segments finish except the last segment, that restarts itself then ultimately fails. seemingly the same segment every time.. tried every work around we can find, and are in the process of exporting a new file to try.. other files seem to work fine..

but it's getting very frustrating.. any ideas would be appreciated..

I'm getting the same error when I have all 8 processors devoted to compressor. I have tried different files and nothing seems to work with all 8 cores working. I took the same program, (2 hrs) and did it on the default setup and it works fine albeit very slow. I'm going to try it this evening with 6 cores and see what happens.

I do the export on one of my power PC's using all 2 cores it has and it works fine too so I think there is some sort of bug in the new compressor that I was not getting before I installed FCS 7.

Anyone else running into this?

thx...jw

So I reduced the number of cores to 6, from 8 and the encode went fine. A little slower, but still decent.

That was incidentally on a MacPro 2.3GHZ, 10GB ram FCS 7 & Snow leopard

I think there is definitely something wrong here, but it's odd there has been little response to this post.

thx...jw

Hi there,

I've got similar problems. Never had any problems with Compressor 3.0 but ever since upgrading back in September to v3.5 (now v3.5.2) I've had a lot of issues - seems a backwards step to me. I have tried the "Compressor Repair" utility, uninstalling & reinstalling but just can't get Compressor to encode my 40 minute HD video for DVD. I've had to just let DVDSP do the encoding (from full HD to m2v & audio in one step).

My system disk has about 80GB free space but I was starting to think that is was a disk space issue as in the odd occasion when compressor was working away, it would take ages to "merge segments" if I was using qMaster - often it would just fall over. There seems to be no heads up that there isn't enough disk space for the temp files required.

Anyway, I'm getting this "3x crash service down" error consistently regardless of a "This Computer" encode or using 4, 6 of 8 virtual clusters via Qmaster. My system is 2008 MacPro 8 core 2.8GHz 8GB RAM.

I'm still on Leopard 10.5.8 but have Snow Leopard waiting to be installed - am I likely to have better luck with a clean install of FCS under Snow Leopard.

I enclose a compressor log:-

Thanks for any advice.
