I've seen this text effect on some of the ABC Family commercials:

It's just a short shot at the 7 second mark. The titles appear to be sitting on the lawn behind the actors.

It seems that After Effects is capable of doing this as seen in this tutorial:

I have the first Final Cut Studio, the one with Motion 2, is there a way to do this effect with what I have in Final Cut?

This also happens on FRINGE a lot.

I know for a fact they do this in After Effects. It might be possible in Motion...I'm sure it is. But with motion happening in front of the text, you will be doing a lot of keyframing of mattes...just like they do in AE, to get this to look right.

It might look simple, but it takes time and effort.

I noticed the y kinda messes up the perspective. It appears to be sitting on the ground but that would mean the rest of the word is floating in mid air. Supported by that one little descender. That's physically impossible! Maybe if there was a descender at the beginning of the word too, but even then a font that bold would probably sag in the middle.

The people in the foreground are rotoscoped in front of the letters.

Yes,

what you need to do is Matchmove the camera movement, apply tracking points to the titles. Then roto everything is supposed to be ahead of the text.
Don't know if it's possible with Motion, but definitely in AE.

So if you forget about having the actors in front of the text, how do you go about just making the titles look like they are sitting on the ground in the scene? Again, I have the first Final Cut Studio (FCP 5, Motion 2, LiveType). How can I do it with those tools?

In FCP it can't be done, since only smoothcam is tracking the frame and yet only to stabilize it.

About Motion I don't know if it can deal with that.

Softwares that can do that for sure are Shake and AE. In AE you track the plate, then you apply the tracking info to a null object and you link your text to the null. it will then move like it was filmed in the shot.

[Jay Burgess] "How can I do it with those tools?"

That my friend is something that we cannot really get into on a forum. That would be a tutorial that would have to be pretty in depth. I have seen them here for AE, but not Motion. What you need is for a kind Motion guru to do a tutorial on this...
