Hi,

I can't seem to figure out how to use the power of USB3 drives on my Early 2011 Macbook Pro. One would think there would be a USB 3 to Thunderbolt adaptor on the market, but many have speculated that Apple doesn't want to make this available in order to force customers to upgrade to a new macbook.

Is there any way that anyone knows of in order to harness USB 3 power without USB 3 ports? I have a bunch of USB3 drives, simply because a lot of places no longer sell firewire drives. And last time I checked, Thunderbolt drives were incredibly expensive. I would really like to be able to use my USB 3 drives at faster than USB 2 speeds.

There sure is, some top results from a Google search for "thunderbolt to USB 3.0"

Thanks for the suggestion. However, I should have stressed that I was looking for an affordable way to do this - without purchasing one of these docks that cost a few hundred dollars. There really should be a simple adaptor, but for some reason Apple seems to have made this impossible.

Do you happen to have the 17" 2011 MacBook Pro by any chance?
