Quicktime thumbnail/poster time changed in Lion?
on Sep 30, 2011 at 12:36:27 am

Hello,

My usual post-shoot logging process is to dump all of my .mov files off of my SD cards and then do bulk naming.

From there I use Cover Flow and roll through the shots and get the shot #s off of the slate which has historically always been picked up as the poster frame for the thumbnail.

Since I've moved to Lion, the poster frame is now picked up a few seconds later into the clip and all of my slates are now bypassed for the Cover Flow thumbnail and I have to use Quick View on every single file to see my slate and get my #s.

Any way to change the poster-frame time as a system-wide pref?

Thanks,
Chris

Don't think so, no.

Thanks for taking a look Jeff.

It seems odd to me that they did this. What did it fix by changing it?

To me, having those poster frames where they were was perfect. Is there something obviously weird with my workflow here? Is there some standard of holding the slate in frame that I'm missing?

I guess I'll time out where that new sampled frame is being taken from and just be sure to hold that long going forward.

Thanks,
Chris

The problem with the head frame being the displayed default is this:

Much video fades from black (useless); raw clips often have a slate as the first frame.

How they came up with their system isn't known to me.

Hmmm... that makes sense. So it is arguably a fix and I'm just stuck having been relying on the old 'wrong' default.

Thanks,
C.
