I just bought a seagate Freeagent pro 1TB esata, I deleted the Mac insaller on it by mistake.

I then went to Seagate's site and they gave me a code and sent me to a link to download the installer.

This I did and ran the installer, it didn't seem to change how the Seagae was formatted (FAT32), so I then ran the disk utility 'erase' format to Mac OS extended (journaled).

The disk utility has been running all night (10 hours) and next to the blue strobing progress bar, there is a message saying,

newfs_hfs: /dev/rdisk2s1: partition size not a multiple of 4k

So I'm wondering is this normal, should it take this long and when's it going to complete the task?

Many thanks.

Yes my problem was that the drive I was sold was not for mac format and so therefore could not be formatted in anything other than FAT 32.

I have since bought a WD my book 1tb esata, this is specifically for mac and comes formatted mac os journaled.

However to get it working properly I have had to partition it (one partition) and via the options button formatted it in the GUID format which is for intel based Macs. This seems to have sorted out the problems I've been having.

I also needed to update the drivers for my Lacie PCI esata card.

HOpe this helps.
