when i turn on one of the editing systems at work, i hear the chime, but the screen never comes on. so far we have tried resetting the p-ram, taking out the fiber card, swapping ram, etc.

we were going to try booting off a firewire drive, but the screen won't come on no matter what combination of keys held, so as of now it's not an option.

i welcome any and all advice

-Adam

G4 Laptop?

Ah, a correction. It's a G5 tower.

There is a logic board reset button inside the computer press that for several seconds, if the issue continues make an appointment at your apple store and let them take a look at it.

Hey Zane,
thanks for the response. we pressed that button, and when that failed to fix it, took the computer to the apple store, where they told us it was the graphics card (which i wasn't real sure about, because if it was, we should be able to remotely log in to it, which we can't), so we bought a new card. With the new one installed, it still wouldn't show anything on either monitor.

Quite confused. Any additional input would be appreciated.

Ahhh could be.
Is there any way to test that this is indeed the problem before we get hasty in replacing that?

It sounds like an expensive fix.

Any testing would have to be done by a Certified Apple Technician. Try the Apple Store Again. It sounds like you didn't actually take the computer in before only described the problem to them, if you had taken it in to the genius bar they will physically test it. I know the one in my town can test a G5 with a different graphics card to tell you for sure if that is the problem before you buy a new one.
