So I had two disks in my G5 and both had systems on it, one 10.3, one 10.4. I trashed the 10.3 system stuff to make more room and also I didn't need 10.3 anymore. The trash emptied accept for one folder. The folder structure inside the trash is thus:

Applications > Palm > Palm desktop.

I cannot delete this file and every time I empty the trash I get this:

The operation cannot be completed because the item Localized.rsrc is in use.

When i go to the trash, the only thing in there is this left over Palm desktop file that was left behind when I trashed 10.3 from a totally separate boot disk.

How can I trash this file once and for all?

Jeremy

Try doing a secure empty trash. If they were old system drives, why not just reformat then is disk utility.

Is a secure empty trash holding option? If so, that doesn't work.

There's still info I need on that disk (lots of it) I just didn't need any of the system or applications anymore. That's why no reformatting.

Any other idears?

Click on finder menu at the top of the screen and select secure empty trash, if that dosn't work try restarting then emptying the trash.

[zrb123] "Click on finder menu at the top of the screen and select secure empty trash"

That did it! Thank you much!

Drag that file onto your desktop. Select it and press Command-i.

Look around in the info to see if the file is locked.

I should have mentioned that they weren't locked and nothing shows up in the login items either.

Sometimes this little trick works:

Put an extention on the end file name like ".doc" or ".zip" or ".mp4"

Sometimes that tricks the computer into thinking the file is something it's not. The icon will change and you might be able to erase it.

That's one of those long-shot kind of things, but I've had it work in the past from time to time.
