DNxHD codecs on MAC OS
on Mar 20, 2020 at 8:37:19 pm

Hello,

I have a few computers running mojave, and they do not currently have DNxHD codecs installed from the looks of it.

I use same as source exports for other file creation... just getting black video in AME.

Shouldn't the codec be installed with AVID? What am I missing?

The Avid codecs are installed when you install Avid.

So you export SaS in Avid, which is DNxHD, and AME doesn't see it? Hmmm

I think the latest AME doesn't support third party codecs like DNX HD. Adobe switched to using their own Quicktime engine, which only has limited codec support. They did this because of Apple removing 32 bit support in Catalina. Catalina only has Quicktime X, which doesn't allow third party codecs at all.

If you export from Avid using Avid DNX MXF Op1A, it will work in AME. Its Quicktime that is the problem.

Not so much the DNxHD codec which AME does support, it's the wrapper and OSX changes to MOV, etc. as you mention as the end of the post. Wrapping it as MXF is the solution.

Great shout guys. I noticed that myself and was planning to just export OP1A if need be.

Thanks for confirming and giving the information about the wrapper.
