Transcoding a subclip
on Apr 11, 2019 at 7:09:18 pm

Hi, when transcoding a subclip created at the link to media stage, is it transcoded like any other master clip in a bin? If I select the full clip in its bin and the subclip of that clip in its bin, will they both be transcoded in the same way? Hope this is making sense.

Any help appreciated

S

It would but its not very efficient.
You'd end up with media for the subclip and media for the full clip.
The more effecient method is to transcode the full clip and then relink the subclip to that new media.

Hi, How do I know when the subclips are relinked, I've transcoded the clips that i'd made subclips from, I've relinked the subclips, but i'm not sure if i'm choosing the right relink options.

Thanks again.

There is a bin column that shows the codec of the clip. You can also right click and select reveal file to see the media file.

It says I can't reveal file for subclips, the bin column is saying its still AVC Long GOP, would this be because I still have the original, not transcoded files in another bin aswell?

Then they aren't re linked yet.
Copy the sub clips and the transcode master clips to a new bin. Ose every other bin.
Select the subclip and then relink and chose the section option relink to selected open bins.

When you say, copy the subclips do you mean consolidate in Avid speak?

Another way would be to cut your subclps on a timeline, and then (hamburger menu) show clip colors in the timeline. Turn on purple for linked clips. Any clips in your timeline that are purple are linked.
I usually leave this turned on, as its a great reminder when/why things are slowing down.
