Avid STL/TXT Caption file to .SRT?
on Nov 24, 2017 at 3:07:15 am

We're working on a project right now to be released into international cinemas. The subtitles for the film are being done on Avid media composer 8.9, using subcap generator.

My question is how do you convert the stl or txt file from avid into srt, or something I can convert to be read by Davinci resolve. Usually I just convert an srt to fcpxml using an online tool then import it into Davinci, but so far I can't seem to find a program that can convert the stl I export from Avid.

Thank you very much.

Have you tried MovieCaptioner.
It’s cheap and may do the the conversion you require.
Just contact the developer before making a purchase.

"MY MEDIA/PROJECT MOTTO: If you think three copies of your Media or Projects are enough. Take a moment to place a value on them and then maybe add two more.
Hard Drives are now stupidly cheap. A RE-SHOOT AND YOUR TIME AREN'T."

You can go to SRT, but also render out gorgeous looking titles to burn in.
In quicktime with alpha, or png with XML / EDL, and the PNG's are still editable, see here:

(Note, I'm biased as I'm the developer.)

Hi Rayjohn

We have an online service that is currently free that should be able to do that translation. Please feel free to give it a go

Cheers, James
