Hey Folks!

I'm looking for a couple of new monitors for my Avid Editing setup. I'm retiring two 8 year old 24" Dell monitors. They were awesome but they are getting cloudy on the sides.

I cut in a two Monitor Setup, kind of like FCP. (I don't like working with a 3rd Flat Screen TV). I'm thinking of going to 27" or 30" with Matte screens. (shiny is no good for me). And of course, I like reasonably priced. 😉

Anyone have some favourites they could share???

Any advise would be much appreciated!!!

Here are my specs:
MacPro (early 2009)
Processor 2x2.26 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
Memory 6 GB 1066 MHz DDR3 ECC
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 512 MB
Software OS X 10.9.5 (13F1507)
MC 7.0.4.3

Thanks,

We have four of the Apple Cinema 30s left at work and I have two at home.

I will be in your shoes soon ☹

To date I have not found a better display on the Mac and PC side IMHO.
I use these for Maya, Resolve, all three NLEs and everything Digital film related.

I have an LG 4K but cant stand the icon size.

The next to test would be the Dell 4Ks.

Good luck :)

Hey Eric,

Thanks for the info dude! I remember those Cinema monitors. I remember they looked great. I'm thinking about the Dell 4Ks. I just have to make sure they are not to hulking for my old MacPro.

Thanks for replying!

I'm using two 32" curved LG monitors - a fantastic;y huge desktop for Avid. (And somewhat of a pain for many other apps that don't require as many windows open at the same time.)

But, I think your real problem and limitation may be the video card(s) in your older Mac. The LGs are connected via Thunderbolt to (I believe they're called) DVI connectors. I don't know if there is a PCI video card that supports Thunderbolt.

If you decide to go to the old Apple 30" monitors I got a sweet one from Mac of all trades. You'll just have to make sure that they'll sell you LIGHTLY used ones.

U may want to wait a few months, if you can. The newest X-SYNC monitors coming from ASUS promise outstanding 4k, HDR performance at refresh rates that match your video card capabilities.
