How to re create deleted mxf files from the original footage?

I have a very large project consisting of 100 hours of 2K prores444 footage. So ,we created mxf proxies for the edit. After we finalise the edit for project I deleted the mxf files from the disk to create some free hdd space. Now after 3 months I need to re edit some stuff. How can I re transcode and get the same mxf from the original footage in a short automated way? My project and everything is intact. Just my mxf files are offline.(Avid version is Avid Media Composer 7 mac)

Were your dailies originally created using Resolve or another dailies processing software? Those programs will typically add a tape name to your media for tracking purposes, and depending on how you set the program, the naming convention for those dailies could vary so it will be important to make sure those match.

If this is not the case and your dailies were originally imported or AMAed and transcoded, the simplest solution would probably be to batch import.

My dailies are my original camera files directly out from alexa. Out from Alexa 2k Prores 444 , transcoded as imported to avid to a lower quality proxy. Editied from the proxy. I deleted the proxy mxf's. How can I re create them from the original files.

Richard is asking how the MXF files got created in the first place - via a third party dailies system like Resolve, or via a transcode via AMA linking directly to the camera originals? The answer you provide, changes the answer we provide.

Sorry for misunderstanding.Mxf files created via AMA linking directly to the camera originals than transcoding them in the bin. Thanks

Can you not AMA access the camera originals for the files that missing?

If you originally AMA linked the files and then transcoded to make MXF media (this isn't importing as that's an older legacy way of ingesting media). Then you create a new empty bin in your project and the AMA link all the required sources you need. (using the set bin display you can select show reference clips to get a list of clips needed and if you turn on the column headings source name and source path it will even show you what and where to find them)
Once AMA linked you can select all and re-transcode to whatever quality you need and then relink the sequence to that media (or link the sequence to the AMA sources if you prefer)

Pat,

Found this old post which answers a question I just asked.
Does this work with imported media, as well? I have found
AMA to not work in one project, synching tracks with video
would drift over time in long takes.

In that instance, could I re-import the original cam files
and link the mxf created into the sequence?

Are you referring to batch reimport?

Is that what would work? I have never had to cross this bridge, so I am all ears.

If at some point you actually imported clips, and cut with them, then yes you can simply batch Re-import.

Either select you sequence and right click, batch re-import, or select the clips in the bin and select batch re-import.

Avid will ask you if you want to do all clips or just offline media.
it will then ask you to confirm file locations for the media you are bringing in.
If the file location has changed, you will need to select all the files, and point avid to the first file, and it should figure out the relative location of the rest of the files.
(I wish AMA did this!!!)
Obviously you need access to the original media.

This is also handy for graphics that change during the course of an edit.
right click the original graphic file, when it asks for the location, point it to the new version, and re-import.

Note re-importing doesn't delete the old media.
If you are re-importing clips that are online, you will double up your media files, so usually best to delete any media files first if you are doing a swap out of graphics.

Also be aware that re-importing ala batch reimport assumes that the clip has not changed in duration, so make sure it is the original master clip that as first created. If not, Media Composer will force fit the source to the clip making it remove or add frames which is not a good look.

This is tremendously helpful, I knew there was a way!

Thanks very much for the info, all.
