Change all subclips in timeline to be master clips

Here's the deal. Lots of formats in this timeline from all sorts of cameras, mostly file-based. Audio was synced and subclips created. Subclips were then named after scene and take. No big deal right?

Well when I export an edl, I want to have the "From Clip Name" comment field show the master clip name, not the subclip name. This seems like a no brainer, but I can't figure it out.

So is there a way to take a timeline that has been edited with subclips and replace all the subclips with master clips (with a command and not a manual clip by clip replace).

Or is there any other way to have EDL manager look to the master clip for the clip name instead of the subclip?

Thanks,

-Russ

I've done it before, I think more or less like this: Duplicate your sequence and place it in a bin with all original master clips. Select all, then relink to selected.

So I must say that after reading your post, I though you misunderstood what I wanted to do. But trusting in the Cow, I thought that I'd give it a shot.

Sure enough, it work! Why in the world would AVID put that menu there? It seems like it should have it's own menu command that is separate from relink media on disk.

Thanks so much for your help!

Actually, it does make sense. Much like you can transcode either clips or sequences, consolidate either clips or sequences, you can relink clips or sequences, including "to selected".

Glad it worked!

I just discovered that one can use "set bin display " menu to Show reference clips
Then all the master clips appear in the same bin automatically. The rest is like Job explained it. : )
Afterwards close the "show reference clips " . Now you're left with a Relinked sequence pointing at Master Clips .
Hooray!
