Hi All Avid Editors & Colorists,

I'm currently trying to learn in depth color correction but don't know where to begin. My tool of choice is after effects, but I feel I I need to start correcting during the edit. Problem is I don't know how to use all the color correction tools/monitors (Y waveform/YCbCr Histogram & others)properly

I basically know when a video color is bad & how to make it a bit closer to normal color, but transforming that normal color to eye candy is something I really haven't attained.

Can somebody point me to where I can learn the basics, what makes good color - good, & if possible making it eye candy. & also how to fully utilize all these monitors in the color correction window.

Thanks.

Avid has a good training DVD on color correction.

google legal video levels and componant waveform monitoring and do a lil readin'.
You will be best off finding an old set of external scopes.
I still sport the old tektronix and old a goofy lookin as they are, they allow me to see my levels in real time at a glance. If ya don't know every level of every clip you are flying blind.
Every Avid editor needs external scopes.
