Setting Pivot points on 3D Objects. Pro Animator 8

I have imported a 3D Model (e.g. Dr Who Dalek)
Part 1. Re-set all the objects in model in x, y, z, Pivot and Position to zero.
Part 2. Moving the model and rotating x, y, z both in global and local when using poses works fine, with all objects staying in correct position. (i.e. all rotating and moving around the same pivot point)
Part 3. When I try changing the pivot points for gun and plunger independently, I can get them to pivot Ok. But I then can't move and rotate as in Part 2, as those objects all move out of position and rotation.
Can anybody tell me the correct procedure for doing this?
I'm guessing this is to do with using Null objects and grouping, but can't seem to get it right!
