Trouble painting a image onto part of a 3D model

I have a model of a old style 3D TV. I'm trying to make the screen use my own image.

Textures seem to work just fine, but using my own image seems to paint itself onto the model much too large to work.
If I create a primitive plane the same size next to the model piece, it paints just fine, size looks proper too.

Here's a link to the model:

After Effects CS4, import (x1000%), select screen of TV, drag custom image to surface just changes color slightly as if image is much too large for the surface.

I'm just wondering if maybe there is something about the model that's my problem.

[Anthony Surrell] "I'm just wondering if maybe there is something about the model that's my problem."

Yes! Your model was poorly build. The UV mapping was not created so you can easily map an image on the screen & did you notice that you have a huge gap between the screen frame and the main body? You can see inside of the TV! I hope you didn't buy this model.

Anyway, I could try to correct this for you in Maya when I get home.
If you are animating several Media Objects, make sure to visit my site.
I have a new InvigoMany product that may help.

Salut.

It was a free model from Turbosquid (I think, can't seem to find it again). I did notice it's got problems but my limited 3D chops kept getting in the way.

Thanks for the info, I had a feeling it might be the model, if you could "fix" it for me I would be very grateful, either way thanks and I'll check out your product.

Here you go:

I corrected the screen as well as the body quickly.

You must use the Layer mapping technique to add your image or clip to the comp named "tv-screen-map" right on top of the UV map.

Thanks! It looks much better.

I'll research Layer mapping tonight, I quickly used one of my test images for the screen and one of them seemed to work (showed about 1/2 the image), so I know it's doable now.

Again, thank you for the help and your model collection is a great deal also.
