Bubble Glass look on front face of object? How?

Hey all, I'm using PA and wondering how you get that cool "bubble glass" look on the front face of an object...

kind of looks like this, but you can tell there is a bubble with a reflection over the top of it, but it is completely transparent. Here is a link to what I mean:

John's got this look spot on... but I just can't figure out how to make it... Custom edge maybe?

Thanks,
Toph.

Sorry to take so long to reply. Those bubbles were done in Photoshop and are not 3D at all. I would suggest that this isn't possible in ProAnimator.

Hi, couldn't you make a sphere object, resize so it's oval and then flatten it a bit? Seems like that could look like the glass bubble. I'll have to try it :) Donovan

Hi everyone,

The glass buttons are actually easy to create in PA/IP.
Donovan was almost in the right path;-)

Here is what you need to do:

-Create an oval shape in IL and import it into PA.

-Create a tinny circle in IL (1 X 1) open this one too in PA.

-Now apply first the edge of your choice to the oval shape and adjust the depth of your object as you wish.

-Select your tinny circle and apply to it the edge named "Round quarter". This will give you a lens kind of object on top of your oval shape.

-To adjust it to the oval shape you need to open the Stats menu and reduce the Y & Z Axis values. Reduce the Z value way more then the Y.

-Create a subtle reflection map for the front face of your lens object and reduce the transparency of the material to your liking.

-Create also a second map for the front face of your oval shape. Distorting this map a little would help to sell the refractive look. A vignette created using a feathered mask on a black solid on top of your texture map would accentuate the bulge look.

Last but not least, you need to play with your highlight sharpness & brightness for each map. For instance the oval map material could have an "Absolute Color" etc...

Here is an example I quickly created to illustrate what I am describing here:
