Hi dotan,
Assign the letters different set number as you have, then close the set-up window.
Now under the scene preview window, choose the set icon (three cubes). Now you should be able to select the sets containing individual letters.
Does this help?

It still doesnt work
ill explain again what im doing
i have the text now i click on the second letter in the preview window and it turns red now i click the set 2 button and click the third letter that is now red and click set 3
after i click outside the word and then see if it works all the letters are at the last set i have chosen
is this the right way to choose the letters?

One way is to use the object pop-up menu below the set-up window. You can use it to choose one or more of your letters without actually clicking on them. You can also select invisible objects and deselect everything.
