3D Invigorator and matte

This is a follow up to our effort to import an .obj file into 3D Invigorator.
Until now, we have only imported Illustrator files - not an .obj file - in 3DI.
We particularly like the control we have over layers with AI files.
We currently have a rectangular .obj file inside 3DI, and want to add an alpha matte to the back only.
The problem we face is, 3DI seems to treat the .obj as a single layer - thus applying the matte to the entire object.
Any suggestion how we can apply an alpha matte to the back face only of our rectangular object?

Your assumption is correct.
You can only map one material to any imported object. The solution to your challenge is to break that face away from the rest of your object in your modeling app. You'll have two objects to deal with then - the brick and the rear face. So long as they're in the same set in Invigorator, they'll move as one.
