There have been lots of questions about how to save files out of Illustrator CS 2 so they will work in the Invigorator or ProAnimator. I've just done a series of tests, and what these tests show is that the Invigorator will accept any native Illustrator file saved in the 8, 10, CS or CS2 formats, as long as the Compression option is turned OFF.

If you have Illustrator 10 or CS you can leave Compression ON, but if you are using CS2 the compression is different so you must leave it OFF. You can also leave the PDF compatibility option turned ON if you want.

So basically there is no need to save CS2 files in older file formats as long as the Compression option is turned OFF when you save.

Hope this clears things up.

Best,
Zax

p.s. If you have a file that was saved properly and still doesn't work, please send it to us so we can take a look. It's always possible that we missed something.

Ok, stupid question, but I'm going out of my mind.

I'm working in Illustrator CS2. How do you turn the compression off?

When you save the file. Try using "save as" if you're not seeing the checkbox.

I'm not seeing a checkbox no matter how I save it. I'll spend more time in it and figure out my problem.

Thanks

How about this:

Be sure you're saving in Illustrator format, not eps or something else.

When you do hit save, you get a pop-up box called Illustrator options.

Create PDF compatible file is checked.
So is Use Compression.

Uncheck use compression.

At least that's how it works with CS.

I am saving as an Illustrator file, but I am not seeing the options box. As a side note, I can't get the "save as a version" option to work either. I was going to work around it by saving as an older version, but that option isn't available to me.

Look for export.

When I choose export, I can't save it as an AI file.

I am so confused by this issue. When I hit save, I have no "Illustrator Options" pop-up and no checkbox for compression settings.

If I try to import the file into ProAnimator, it gives me the "no vector paths..make sure Compression is turned OFF" error message.

Ok, I solved the mystery...well sort of. I downloaded updates, restarted, and created my document from scratch in Illustrator. Now, when I hit Save, the dialog options box appears and I can turn Compression OFF!

I have no idea why the other document wouldn't save, but now, I'm happy and ready to import into ProAnimator.
