I have some old M100 601i files that won't open on my version of Quicktime (10.4). I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas whether there is a codec I can download or if the new Media 100 will help me convert these files into something I can use on my Mac? I'm running Yosemite.
If you install the free Media 100 demo, it puts all the codecs on your system. After the codecs are there, you still won't be able to open the media in Quicktime Player X, but you will be able to open the media in Quicktime Player 7, which can be downloaded as an additional program, accessed from the Utilities folder, here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL923
You can use Quicktime Player 7 to export the clips to a different codec, or you could import the files into Media 100, choose "Import Media to the Media Standard and Codec"...and then select the new codec you want the footage in, and convert it that way.
