Hi there,

for serveral reasons I'm looking into upgrading my trusty mac pro silver tower to a cylinder machine (possibly). Before I do I just wanted to check if anyone has had experience running M100 on this machine or has heard of any possible issues?

Obviously expansion cards for external AJA boxes etc are a no-go. I'm just thinking it's time to put these to rest anyway. There's pretty much always an alternative to getting stuff into the computer these days (a thunderbolt connected box perhaps?).

ANyway any thoughts would be much appreciated. Before I drop a whole bunch of cash on this machine.

I have Media 100 2.1.5 running on a Late 2013 Mac Pro as described below. Running on Blackmagic Ultrastudio 4K via Thunderbolt 2. Have not done extensive testing other than to open previous projects created on 2.1.3 and 2.1.4. But everything seems OK. I have an AJA LHi, but will probably be leaving it in the 2012 Mac Pro tower. I have an OWC Helios 2 chassis it should work in with M100, but I will probably leave well enough alone there. Hope this helps. The indications are good though with my setup.

Im using Sonnet thunderbolt expansion for the aja kona3g and works fine and have a matrox mxo2 max as a backup for on location editing. It should work perfectly on the cylinder, im just using a new macmini for now.

The new MacPro is working great for me so far. I have seen some issues with XDCam Transfer which I have to investigate. But other than that, using a Sonnett Expansion Chassis and a Kona LHe+ in the current setup, everything is fine.

Which sonnet chassis are you using?

We have KONA LHi boards.

We have 2 Sonnett Echo Express SE II for 2 2013 Mac Pros, one with a LHe Plus, and one with a LHi. Both chassis also contain FibreChannel cards for our SAN. This setup works extremely reliable for us.

One thing you should be aware of with the chassis, though, is that they donĀ“t accept full-length PCI express cards. The older Kona3 for example will not fit in there.
