I have media 100 codec files from around 2001.
Not sure what version that was.
Would today's system read these files?

Any way anyone can think of to get these files to work?
The footage is very valuable to me.

Thx.

Yes, the current codec and the current application will read these files.

...Unlike FCP X, which can't read files produced just a few months ago by FCP 7.

for real? that would be pretty impressive.

Is there a specific version I need? (Media 100 suite v.2? or Media 100 i ?)

Can I use a demo to open & export these?

Yeah. Get the Suite 2 trial version and you will be able to use it for 14 days (assuming you have a Intel Mac). And if you like it; there is a promo running right now where you can save $400 on the price of the app.

This apparently tiny problem dives right to the bottom of the digital way of thinking, recently perfectly exemplified by the fuss provoked by the launch of FCP X. Are we on the road to losing our collective memory, adopting a narrowminded field of vision exclusively focused on the wonders of tomorrow? Perhaps the perfect time to stop and think about strategy, Apple? Long live Media 100!

Absolutely! Outsiders don't realise just how good Media 100 is. I mentioned it on another Cow forum only the other day - the EX one I think- and some guy wrote back "I didn't think Media 100 still existed". Needless to say I gave him the full works. A friend of mine in America (I'm UK) just had a run in with FCP and is purchasing Media 100. Boris should spend some PR money right now to capture disenchanted FCP users.

One word of caution is don't update your computer to 10.6.8 as this will render old M100 codec broken.

This will hopefully be fixed soon. So if you want to use old M100 codecs like lossless. Stay with 10.6.7 or less.
