How Do I Upgrade to v10.5.8 or Higher?
on Dec 8, 2009 at 7:14:52 pm

I've downloaded the M100 14 day trial. When I double-click on the application icon, the icon flashes as though it's going to open but doesn't. My Mac version is OSX 10.4.11. I spoke with Matt at M100. He said I need 10.5.8 or higher for it to open. I clicked on "Software Update" but there's nothing that brings it to 10.5.8 or higher. What do I need to do? Tx

Thomas,

You would need to purchase the upgrade here: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC223Z/A

You need to makes sure that you meet the system requirements for the upgrade, the most important are below:

Mac computer with an Intel processor (You cannot run 10.6 on a G5 Mac)
1GB of memory
5GB of available disk space

You would also need to make sure any other software you are currently running is compatible with 10.6

Thanks Matt. The computer I loaded it to doesn't have an an Intel processor, so I'm going to need to load it to another one of our suites. I'll delete it from this computer. Is there anything I need to do to get another free trial on the other computer or do I just use the same Trial Installation Code? Tx

The same trial code will work and the trial period is based per each machine. You'll get the full 14 day trial.

You also could upgrade your G5 to OSX10.5 (via a paid upgrade), and then update to 10.5.8 for free. Maybe you should look e.g. on eBay for a 10.5 update disc…

Nothing's ever simple. I cleared the Media 100 apps that I'd loaded to the 10.4.11 suite and now FC won't open. When you click to open it, the FC window opens in the middle of the screen and at the bottom of that window, the text races through all the apps as though they're loading, then the window shuts and nothing happens. Any suggestions? Tx

How did you do the uninstall? Via the Media 100 installer/uninstaller? Or by just deleting the Media 100 folder?

You can look if your Media 100 files are deleted correctly. Go into YourHardDrive->Library->QuickTime and look for files named Media 100 there.
Then go to YourHardDrive->System->Library->Extensions, and to YourHardDrive->System->Library->Frameworks. There should be no Media 100 files left there. If there are, delete them and restart your Computer.
Anyway, not really sure if this will change anything, since Media 100 and FCP should work correctly on the same system. But maybe there is something that conflicts with 10.4.11

Did Final Cut launch before you tried removing M100?

FC would not launch until I fully removed M100. I thought I'd removed it, even did what Floh suggested above but my inexperience kicked in. It was my senior editor who knew how to remove M100 entirely.

I have another suite with OSX 10.5.8. Tomorrow morning when the suite is free, I'll try loading M100 again. Tx

Glad you figured it out.

You should be good to go on a 10.5.8 machine.
