I'm presently running Media 100i v.8.2.3 with QT 6.5.2 on a Quicksilver 2002 running OS X 10.3.5 and it's absolutely rock steady. Today, the IT guys requested I install the "Daylight Saving Time Update" from Apple software update. This requires the OS to be brought up to v.10.3.9. Are any of you running this combination of OS/QT/M100 successfully and are there any pitfalls I should be aware of before proceeding ?
In fact, what's the highest version number OS/QT/M100 combination most of you are running successfully ?
We have OS 10.3.9 QT 7.1.3 with Media 100i 8.2.3 on a G4 with the following specs:
Machine Model: Power Mac G4
CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (3.3)
Number Of CPUs: 1
CPU Speed: 1.4 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 256 KB
L3 Cache (per CPU): 2 MB
Memory: 1.25 GB
Bus Speed: 100 MHz
Boot ROM Version: 4.2.8f1
Serial Number: XA0332C2J3C
Everything Runs fine for us with this configuration.
Thank you both for your prompt response. As much as I enjoy updating and tweaking my own PCs to wring the last bit of speed and efficiency out of them, in this case, I think I'll leave well enough alone and go with the "If it ain't broke" approach. Unless there are major speed or functionality enhancements in updating to OS X 10.3.9/M100 v. 8.2.3a/QT 7 I think I'll stick with my current configuration, I can literally count on the fingers of one hand the crashes I've had since my M100 8.2.3 update. Oh, and by the way, that's running a 1.8GHz SonnetTech Encore/ST G4 Duet processor upgrade.
In the case of a processor upgrade card I would certainly follow the "if it ain't broke" strategy.
F.Y.I. My company has still got three m110I 8.2.3a versions running on 10.4.8 (2 on a G4 1GHZ, 1 on G4 8oo Mhz) and they NEVER crash. But with processor upgrades i would think twice before changing an OS.
