I have two Media 100

1- Media 100i XR V 8.2.2, Mac G4 Quicksilver 733Mhz., 1Gb. Ram, Mac OS 10.3

2- Media 100 SW V 10.2.1, Mac G5 Quad 2.5Mhz., 2Gb Ram, Mac OS 10.4

I use the first one to digitize and pass over intranet all the media to the second one for editing.
But when I need to pass back to mastering to tape from the second one to the first one I haven

Hi Daniel,

Download and install the 8.2.3a update from the media 100 website. If I recall correctly, this issue of compatibility between "SW" and "i" was addressed in this release.

I use SW and i with a G4 dual 500 OS 10.3.9

-Download and install the Media 100 software codecs

-When you finish editing in SW, export from edit suite
use export to "other" >Quicktime Movie.

-on movie settings use:
video - settings- Media 100 NTSC 720, Best quality, 29.97 Fps, Limit Data rate as high as your system can handle

uncheck prepare for internet streaming

hit OK then hit export

-import the movie into Media100i

Works for me for about a year or so.

Media 100i V7.5 <=> Media 100 SW 90 day Trial!?
on Jul 23, 2006 at 5:23:14 am

Can I just pop into this thread and quickly ask - I was previously under the impression that if you had Media 100 SW, that you could only export back out to Media100 HD, not the older versions. But reading this thread now, I'm wondering if that's perhaps no longer the case(?).

Can I ask therefore....(?):

I currently have Media100i 7.5 for OS9.

If I got a friend with OSX to help with some editing, using the downloadable demo of Media100sw (90 day trial), would they then be able to pass the files back to me for me to master in my Media100i 7.5?

If you can let us know I'ld be grateful.

Atm, am taking a bit too long to finish a project, and could do with delegating.

Hopefully you Digitized 720 x 486 video, 48k audio (if the Vincent card does that) as SW doesn

Thanks for the reply.

All material is digitised at PAL 720 x 576, 48k audio [ and I traded my Vincent for a P6000 with DV Option eventually - yay! =) ]

When you say material will have to be rendered up for editing, do you mean it will slow import to SW, or will it fast import? Or can you even open Media100i Projects with SW?

Getting it back to 7.5 - Export a QT from SW - that's kinda what I thought I might have to do. =P Hopefully, if still in the Media100i codec, it would fast import. But correct me if I'm wrong.

Anyway, sorry to ask such questions, when it's available as a free download to experiment with, but you only get one 90 day trial, and I wouldn't want to take it till I need it, sort of. ^_^.

I do plan to upgrade to v11 at some point next year, after I get some income from this current project ( am broke atm ). But since I'll need a new Mac too, and a new OS, etc, etc, I'm waiting to see what ends up superceeding the PowerMac G5. Maybe something will be shown off at Apple's WWDC in a few weeks...!?

Anyway, again, thanks for your help, and taking the time to answer my query.

[Ajmetz] "When you say material will have to be rendered up for editing, do you mean it will slow import to SW, or will it fast import? Or can you even open Media100i Projects with SW?"

You can import Media 100 i media files, timelines, projects and bins directly without rendering. Be aware that once you saved a project/bin/program in Media 100 sw you will not be able to open them again in Media 100 i. Timelines/Bins/projects can be exchanged in both ways with Media 100 HD (and the Aja based SDe) only.

[Ajmetz] "Getting it back to 7.5 - Export a QT from SW - that's kinda what I thought I might have to do. =P Hopefully, if still in the Media100i codec, it would fast import. But correct me if I'm wrong."

If you export as self contained while you stayed in the Media 100 i codec in SW you should be able to fast import the files into Media 100 i. In Media 100 V8.2.2 there was a bug that it did not fast import which was fixed in V8.2.3, and I don

Thank you very much for all your recomendation.

This is what I did:

Upgrade to Media 100i V.10.2.3a
Upgrade to Media 100 SW v.11

For all who ask, Why import back to media 100i ? Is just to be able to master to tape since SW doesnt give you that option yet.

This is what I get:

Exporting form Media 100 SW v.11 a 15 min program (720x486, 44.1 Mhz)
- To a Self-contained .Mov - 16 min render - 2.01 Gb. file
- To a QuickTime Media 100 NTSC 720 (best quality) - 14 min render - 6.85 Gb. file. In the quicktime exporting process the Media 100SW v.11 in G5 Quad 2,5 GHz, crash 3 time.

Importing to Media 100i v.10.2.3a
- The Self-contained .Mov took 1h15m process
- The QuickTime Media 100 NTSC 720 took 18min process.

So if I go with QuickTime Media 100 NTSC I get a quicker process but a 3 time larger file, plus the bugs that I get in the export process. And if I use the Self-contained .Mov I get a smaller file but a really long importing process.

I think this is the best perfomance I can get from what I have.
When I bought the Media 100 SW I tought that passing a 1 hour program too a Media 100i it would take like 20 min. with Self-contained movies. Now I realize that it will take me like 2 hours - best scenario...Outch!!!!.

I didn
