Hi
i use m100 8.2.2 and scsi uw2 10.000 rpm raid
if i get an external hard disk Firewire 800
digitize dvcam tapes is possibile at maximum resolution?
I can't understand this, cause I image the FW800 connection is fast
but the disk records at 7200 rpm.
What is the standard for HD used in broadcast production?
And what about the thermal calibration?
When i bought my first video editing system, one said was necessary to use AV hard diskes
at 10.000 rpm or more and without thermal calibration. Now? For firewire HD?

thanks

Maurizio

For what it's worth, when my SCSI raid went south, I bought a FW400 drive with a fast Oxford 911 interface for a quick interm fix. It worked perfect up to 300KB on M100 8.2.2 (I don't have uncompressed).

So, FW800 should be no problem also.

Other inexpensive drive systems to consider are SATA raids. Much faster than FW800 and cheap. Here's an interesting article.

I've been using FW 800 drives for a year with uncompressed on M100 w/ no problems. If you have a lot of audio tracks put them on an other drive
