I know I've read somewhere that this deck doesn't like hooking up to NLE's w/o a separate blackburst generator. But I've been using this setup for years. (Run composite out of M100 BOB and use as my REF signal). I've never had any problems. But recently I've noticed the V-hold is off just slightly. The frame is "floating" a bit high. Nothing that most people would notice on a regular TV, but it does throw off things that are letterboxed.

So my question is this. Can I adjust the V-hold on the BetaSP deck? I quickly went thru the manual, and the menus on the deck to no avail.

Or am I stuck having to buy a blackburst generator? If I am, do any of you fine COWs have one you are willing to give up?

Make sure you connect the composite cable between the deck and M100.

You should find that once you record on the UVW and then play the tape back it's all fine.
Try that and see if the playback image is back in the right position.

I don't even bother with the composite signal feed from the M100 to our UVW and
always get a non-sync error message on the UVW and a picture that 'rolls' on the monitor... but it still records just fine.

Is your composite source from m100 going to the UVW on a particulary long cable? or passing through
any other devices (like a switcher)? Because it sounds like there is a timing issue on your cabling.

I have he same set up. Composit out of the BOB into ref. And component In/out M100. While recording it always looks like that. I monitor m100 during recording and monitor playback after record. no problems.

You can buy a cheap Horita BSG-50 for around $100.

I'm running the same setup and have used the Horita BBgen for years without a problem. The UVW1800 may need some work. Mine needed some new tape guides and a few other expendable parts that are designed to wear. ABout 3-$400. You may want to have an engineer look at it or a tape recorded on it.

Good luck

Try connecting both composite in and out of the Junction Box to the Betacam's composite out and ref in.
