Auto generate grade LUT by comparing before/after frames?
on May 12, 2016 at 10:37:25 am

Hi all,

I'm pretty sure this doesn't exist but wanted to check.

My situation is that I've edited a film which has then been professionally graded. I'm now cutting a trailer using some footage that hasn't been graded and trying to match the colour. I'm assuming I have to do that by eye but looking for a short cut!

So if I have a raw frame and a corresponding graded frame, can I use anything to generate a LUT to apply to other clips? As far as I'm aware a LUT is just a colour transform and so it seems possible. I'm aware that I'd also need to adjust exposure and colour temp, but wanted to see if the basic functionality is available with AE or Resolve or whatever.

Any thoughts? Thanks!

Thanks for the reply.

Have you used this? It looks pretty out of my league both in price and understanding, but I had a look through the "LUT generation" part off the manual. I couldn't find reference to the feature I'm talking about, you sure it's possible with this?

Thanks!

"MatchLight IMS is an Image Matching System that enables LUTs to be automatically generated by the direct comparison of two or more images, creating a LUT that matches the before image to the after."
