Hello. I would like to know where I can get the best resources on channel shifting for high con matte creation, for pulling out foreground "actors" to composite elsewhere. Not your average adobe help topic, some really in depth stuff would be great.

There is a color grading tut on lynda that I did not get all I wished out of it. Got a good amount, but I know that there are things I am just not doing or that I did and should not have, that can improve it drastically.

I am using non green screen footage, always, tons of it, and the actors are actually dancers and it is dv footage and I am just looking for some really spectacularly clever ways to combine and shift colors to get this done in days, not weeks, and as little roto, obviously, as possible. Thanks

Might try say the Tao of Color website, see if you can communicate with Robbie, Patrick, or Jim directly ...
