Color correction suite setup basics please!

Hey folks,

Have a new mac coffee can and considering bringing pro color correction to our studio using Speedgrade.

For the monitoring situation, from what I understand, and please correct me if I'm wrong... here's what I need:

-decent working monitors (like HP Dreamcolor or Dell Ultrasharp?)
-a calibrate-able and color-space-switchable reference monitor (or do things like Dreamcolors work as pro reference monitors?)
-a special card (or box on the case of my coffee can) to output to said reference monitor... or do the firepros output stuff like REC 709?

Anyway, thanks much from a newbie at this!

Any recommendations for a lowish-end setup?

-Tom

One very budget option I'm playing with is:

-keep my cheap Acer monitors
-use Blackmagic UltraStudio Mini monitor connected to HP Z27X Dreamcolor

Any big limitations there?

thanks,

Tom

If you're going to be doing your program monitor for critical work on the BM Ultra, then using an Acer for the basic UI parts of the program is fine.

I'm getting by with a Dell Ultrasharp calibrated for video with the i1 unit. Not ideal, but still my outputs have played beautifully on both every tv they've been on through DVD and also web & computer viewing. So I'm getting by. Your setup would be nice, with a pair of monitors and one well set up for video.

Although looking from the date of your post you've probably been using it for some time. How's it working, or did you try something else?

Nel
