SLOG2 Grading - Noise and blown out blacks
on Aug 27, 2014 at 6:14:45 am

Hi all,

I'll start by qualifying this post by saying I'm very new to this workflow. This was actually my first FS700 shoot using SLOG2.

I recently shot a sequence on SLOG2 (pp7 on the FS700). Now I've loaded into Adobe PP to cut selects I've noticed that my footage (1090p, 25fps, AVCHD in camera SD card) is poor quality. The blacks are really bad, posterised, and full of noise. The whole shoot appears to have come out underexposed too. Other colours appear to be OK and whites better than the blacks but the image is still really poor and breaks apart with a simple curves correction.

My question is simply how do I go about using this footage and is there a way to salvage some of my shoot? Speedgrade is my colour correction software and I was wondering if there is anything I can do to try and salvage these shots. Any tips for dealing with SLOG2 footage? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Please do ask for more info if I've not been specific enough about settings etc.

Cheers all.
