Looked everywhere I can think of but I can't find a way to view the aspect ratio of a clip in the inspector.

Am I blind?

Select the clip in the browser and view it in Inspector.
Now that's the pixel size of course.
You can do that in the browser by turning on Frame Size in columns.

Thank you for your reply. Now I realize that I should have been a bit more specific....

I already know about the "Frame Size" in columns and the inspector. But what I need to know is the pixel aspect ratio. For example some cameras record non-square pixels (e.g., DV NTSC is 0.9:1).

Where can I find this pixel aspect ratio in FCPX?

Thank you and sorry for not being specific enough on my OP.

I dont know of any pane in FCPx which displays this information.
Perhaps it would be quicker to just google the camera and check its pixel recording aspect ratio.

Its one of those, "you should know this" things ☺
Generally, when you see 1080p or 720p you think 16:9.
When the numbers get up there then you have to rethink things.
Now if you're worried about 0.9 then you really need to know what camera was used.
Where you have to worry is when someone tries to pass off an HD project but used something that was 1440x1080. I don't care what anyone thinks, that crap is blurry to me :P

I agree, 1440 looks blurry to me too! This is exactly what I got in the project.

I know about frame aspect ratios and pixel aspect ratios. Not claiming I'm an expert but I understand these things.

Having said that, I was hoping that FCPX would have a column that shows you the pixel aspect ratio. This would come in very handy when you have clips from multiple sources in a large project. Nothing beats a glance at a column to quickly know the PAR of a clip.

I hope Apple will add this in a future release.

Thanks!

Xavier
