Canon C300 mk2 Metadata and FCPX 10.4.5
on Jan 26, 2019 at 12:05:11 am

Just noticed this today :

I have a library ( all Canon C300 Mk 2 ftg) and some of it was shot off speed 60 FPS . The base frame rate is 23.98 .
I tried to create a smart collection of shots based on frame rate to isolate the non 23.98 material into a smart collection, however it appears that all clips whether they are 23.98 or 60 fps reflect the frame rate of 23.98 and the attempt to make the smart collection failed for this reason.

Has anyone shot overcrank with the C300 Mk2 and had their off speed clips reflect the actual frame rate in the inspector?

What frame rate does the info panel report for the clips?

I haven't shot with the Canon but I know with my Blackmagic camera, if I shoot off-speed, eg. my frame rate is 25 but I shoot 60, the camera is capturing at 60 fps but writing a 25 fps clip to the SD card, giving me slow motion. As far as FCPX knows, that is a 25 fps clip.

Assuming the C300 is doing the same thing, you may have to look for a metadata tag other than frame rate to see that it was recorded off-speed.

I agree- it seems that the metadata in X always reports the base frame rate whether it is 23.98, 25, 29.97 and not the actual shooting frame rate. It would be nice if the off speed shots were noted as 60/23.98 so they could be easily searched in the browser.

I had a quick poke around in the custom metadata view and there is an entry for off-speed frame rate.

"Video Frame Rate" is the fps rate of the clip.
"Shooting Rate" is the off-speed fps it was shot at.

My Blackmagic camera is populating those entries correctly. Now if you could just search any of the metadata in a smart collection....

[Jeff Kirkland] "My Blackmagic camera is populating those entries correctly."

Unfortunately, I just checked my C300 Mark II footage in FCPX and it does not fill in the "Shooting Rate" field.

I just checked some over crank C300Mk2 files with canon XF utility. even though I was shooting 60fps, the frame rate reported in meta is 23.98. I do not see a field for shooting rate in their metadata ...
