How can my client A/B audio tracks remotely?
on Jan 6, 2018 at 6:33:58 pm

I am currently editing a live musical performance for my client. He asked me to send him the videos once I'm done "sweetening" the audio. However, I would like for him to compare the original audio vs. the sweetened audio in a quick, easy and convenient way.

I created in FCP X a project where I cut back and forth between the original and the newly sweetened audio but doing that for 24 songs would be too much work.

I'm wondering if there's a video player (or online service) where a producer (in this case my client) can hit a button and switch between the two audios for "on the fly" comparison.

Is there such a thing? If not, how have you folks dealt with something like this?

FYI: we're not in the same city so it's not possible for my client and I to sit in the same room and listen.

Thanks!

Xavier

Do they have a Mac? If so, open both in Quixktime X and hit shift enter to play them both at the same time. Then click back and forth to select whichever one you want to listen.

I believe Frame.IO has the ability to load up two versions and possibly click between them audio-wise.

Hi Jeremy,

Thanks for your idea. My client does have Mac but when I tried it on mine, both audio files play (which is what we want) but I can also hear both (not what we want).

Is there a setting perhaps that I'm missing?

I tried this using QT 7 and it works. I guess I can ask them to download QT 7.

You could also use Roles to export two separate audio tracks with a Multi-track Quicktime Export. (Under options when you export Master File).

Then in VLC you can use the Audio menu to switch between the audio channels you exported.
