It should at least answer the questions about what the prices will be for the various options.

It will also mean that reviewers start to receive demo machines. Then we'll find out whether generic third-party hardware (storage, GPUs, other PCIe cards) will actually fit and/or work with these machines. Also the true power demands.

So Frame IO are also making a big announcement on the 10th? Will we see a new FCPX tomorrow?

It's 8am EST and nothing up yet on the Apple site, not that I'm interested or anything ...

Also I was thinking I might trade in my iMac Pro for a Mac Pro but when I put in my iMac Pro serial number it didn't come up in the database and said I could only recycle it....um, no!

But that might take the sting off the cost of the new Mac Pro if I could get a couple thousand for my $4500 iMac Pro which is a little over a year old. And I'd have a truly upgradable machine.

Makes sense to me!

Let's go Apple.

I will def keep my old 2013 for other tasks.
Heck, I still have 2009 loaded with PCI cards.

I have a 2009 MacPro Tower flashed to a 5,1 and souped up to the max that can still run Final Cut 7 and other older apps with a dual boot SSD with ElCapitan and High Sierra. Got to keep that around. But my workhorse is the iMac Pro which is great, but if they will give me something in a trade in that is worth my while it makes more sense to me to have the new MacPro which would be upgradable.

I'm coming in around $9100. 8 core seems to be enough and I assume I can buy third party RAM for this thing? Went with 32 gig and the upgraded video card. Plus Apple Care.

OK, it's live.

Base is still $5,999 (w/o display, AppleCare, wheels)

"Reasonable" configuration - 16-core / 96GB RAM / Vega II Duo / 2TB SSD - $14,999
(w/o display, AppleCare, wheels)

Maxed out $52,599 with wheels & Afterburner (w/o display, AppleCare)
Also that's still not with an 8TB SSD, which is coming. So the real max price is actually a bit higher.

But, you get 6% cash back with an Apple Card until the end of the year :)

I still think I only need the 8 core with 128 gigs of RAM. Are there four total RAM slots or 6? Hard to tell...if there are 6 slots then the 8 core makes no sense, unless Apple has some new slick way of handling 6 slots of RAM in an 8 core machine.

So then it would be a 12 core model (slower base processor speed) with 96 gigs but I would buy it with 32 gigs and buy aftermarket RAM assuming I can.

Then the upgrade to the Vega II with 32 Gigs....I can upgrade later...its a MacPro right?

1TB HD to start and Apple Care and it's around $10k. Not terrible since I know it will future proof me and be upgradable for another decade (retirement).

At that price, might as well get a 10-pack of MacPro!

Benchmark testers are going to have their hands full with the amount of options now available. Will they even be able to benchmark a fully loaded MacPro?

What software needs 65,000 Euros of computer to run at its peak?

Do I need two single GPUs or one double GPU? Or one single and two doubles? Or two doubles and a single? Of (gasp) two doubles? Or do I need to wait for the single one that’s unavailable becomes it’s faster than the other four combined?

Do I need Afterburner for working with ProRes (not RAW)?

Lots of questions, but it sure looks cool!

Do you need an Afterburner card for working on Prores now?

[Tero Ahlfors] "Heavy duty simulation/CG"

Ah yes. Bitcoin!

[Tero Ahlfors] "Do you need an Afterburner card for working on Prores now?"

I don't know, do I? I feel like I need Red Raw acceleration as well as any compressed h264 recording out of DJI cameras.

I just wonder what ProRes acceleration would do?

Can the new MacPro run any other OS besides Catalina? Would be nice to have a boot drive with High Sierra or even Mojave.

Haha, I have.
Could not fathom the cost for day job.
Did a Dell too and that was ridiculous as well.
Now, of course, this new Mac Pro is gonna be a tough sell but I am clear to get the base version.

Does anyone have any insight on the W5700X option for video cards?
It's not available yet.
Wondering if it's worth waiting for.
I have the base 8GB version in the shopping bag but approved to upgrade to the W5700X, assuming it's around 1K USD extra.
