News: Preserving Culture Through Film Archiving: ARRI Showcases Archival Tools At NAB
on Apr 8, 2013 at 10:50:43 pm

(Las Vegas NAB Show, Nevada--April 8, 2013) Motion picture libraries and national film archives are intensely looking for solutions to preserve often damaged, deteriorating film materials in their libraries. The ARRISCAN offers unique options specially developed for archive purposes in cooperation with film archives and restoration specialists worldwide.

Organizations dedicated to protecting cultural heritage through motion pictures are turning to ARRI for better options. L’Immagine Ritrovata in Italy, Lumières Numériques in France and National Film Board of Canada have all recently added additional archive tools to existing ARRISCANs, which greatly improves workflow efficiency for scanning libraries of old, fragile films.

At NAB a selection of the available ARRISCAN film gate collection is being showcased: Wetgate 35mm, Wetgate 16mm, Archive Gate 16mm and the sprocketless transport system.

ARRISCAN Main Features:
  • 16mm & 35mm Wet Gates to scan film material with optical scratch concealment using time-tested Perc (perchloroethylene) or the low toxicity SES3 fluid from Kodika.
  • 16mm & 35mm Archive Gates for scanning with higher and wider aperture to allow for image stabilization with ARRI’s built-in stabilization option or in external software systems.
  • Sprocketless film transport to scan damaged and non-standard film materials that can not be scanned with typical 16mm or 35mm pin registered gates and sprocket drive transports.
  • Soft archive mode for perfect control of the film transport and pinless scanning mode including reduction of film tension and slower winding speeds.
  • Built-In stabilization option to optimize image steadiness for pinless scanning
  • Highest image quality in 6K, 4K and 2K
  • High Dynamic Range scanning & true 16-bit image output

To learn more about utilizing the ARRISCAN, interested clients are invited to visit the annual ARRI Archive Workshop and restoration event June 11-12, 2013 in Munich, Germany. For more, go to:
