Midrange 5.1 Surround Interfaces - do they exist?
on Dec 10, 2017 at 5:04:46 am

I am trying to set up a mixing solution for two small Adobe suites. I'll admit that overspent on the treatment so the rooms are acoustically separated and now I don't have enough money for the RME Fireface UC it was spec'd out for. I've Goggled all the usual suspects and found a deadening silence. What are people using for an audio interface with 8 outputs (7.1) or at least 6 outputs (5.1) that have surprising quality D/A for under $600? Is there such a beast?

I suspect that there are two distinct markets for 5.1 and 7.1 decoders.
1) Professionals who mix those formats and can afford pro-quality gear (and prices)
2) Consumers who just want a bunch of speakers to hear the whizzy effects in their home theater.

IMHO, that is why there are few if any mid-price decoder products.

Recording audio without metering and monitoring is exactly like framing and focusing without looking at the viewfinder.
