Selecting a clip in the source bin and making it mono audio

When I select a clip in the source bin and make it mono audio and put it in the source viewer I can not here any audio. If I put the same clip in the timeline, I can here the audio play. The video was shot with a Canon 60D. Any help appreciated.

It sounds like there's audio on only 1 channel.

I'm pretty sure you can make stereo audio into dual-channel. Do a Pan Center on the good channel & just select that channel when you edit.
