Billy SurfComputer for 4K smooth editing

I use Premiere Pro and Adobe Audition daily. A little bit of After Effects and maybe more in the future. I'm buying a new computer and want to use PP with zero hiccups. 4K editing, multiple codex, I don't want to use proxy editing, would like full resolution (not 1/4 etc while editing)! I prefer a laptop but it's not necc. JUST WANT TO EDIT smoothly, lots of audio tracks transitions etc. without an issue at all.

Also, are the m4000 quadro cards better at handling vide tha the new gtx 10 series?

I was leaning toward HP because I read their workstations use better parts etc. than consumer versions and that dreamcolor display is nice.

I plan on this being my main workstation for the next 4+ years, I usually buy with high specs (current computer is over 6 years old) so they will last.

4 options, tell me if they all will work flawlessly with your software, none etc. (2 laptops, 2 desktops)

Rule laptops out...smooth 4K native, mixed formats? You need power. And be prepared to shell out a LOT of money. In cutting a 6K feature, Vashi here made a machine that cost upwards of $15,000.

http://vashivisuals.com/6-below-editing-in-6k/

"custom made DELL Precision Tower 7910 Series workstations with 20-core processors. These are outfitted with 128GB of RAM and NVIDIA Quadro M6000 12GB video cards. The 6K frame is 6144 x 3160 pixels and needs massive power to push it around smoothly. 64TB of RAID 5 storage is shared across 10GB ethernet."

You won't need something THAT high end....but you will need serious horsepower...

[Billy Surf] "I mainly edit GH4 mov files BUT wanted to future proof!"

That's heavily compressed 4K then, and with it being GH4, what kind of plugins do you typically add to your clips usually?

Hi Gary - Film Convert, a lut maybe and lots of PP transitions etc. Used Magic Bullet "Looks," in the past but it brings my current system to a crawl!

You don't mention media storage, which is one of the most crucial elements for smooth editing. An external Thunderbolt raid would be ideal - what was your plan?

Hi Herb! Thanks for the reply. My thought was using the SSD for windows and programs and G-RAID with Thunderbolt 2 and USB 3.0 8TB for media files.

[Billy Surf] " My thought was using the SSD for windows and programs and G-RAID with Thunderbolt 2 and USB 3.0 8TB for media files."

I would recommend the G-Speed Studio XL for the raid - it's an 8 drive raid, 7 usable drives if set to raid 5 for safety, and will get you transfer speeds in excess of 1000 MBs. All things being equal more drives in a raid equals greater speed. A 2 or even 4 drive raid is not enough, especially if you ever do multicam.
