can Seq in/out marks override Play/src?
on Feb 2, 2015 at 11:14:47 pm

Maybe because I'm used to the Avid default but when the durations between in/out marks on the play & seq side disagree, Avid defaults the Seq marks and ignores the Out on the play side, instead giving an "insufficient content for edit" error msg. Is there a pref or a place I can make the Seq side override the Avid way?

Thanks,

Paul

In PP the in/out needs to be set first in the timeline, and then you'll get many options.

Thanks. Not sure I follow, in my case the dilemma (desire) is that the Timeline in/out should over-rule any out set on the Play side

Hmm. Maybe we are not using the correct terms, here.

We have a Source window, a Program window, and a Timeline.

I'm don't know what "Play side" refers to.

Are you being obtuse Richard? if you mark an in and an out either in your Timeline or Record (or Program) window and that duration exceeds the duration of the clip in to out in your source window, it give you an error of "insufficient content" despite whether or not the source clip does in fact have the content to cover the edit you've requested. So you have to go to the source window and clear your out mark and then go back to the timeline or Record window to execute the overwrite or insert. In Avid and FCP7 (I think) there was is an option to "ignore out mark" of the source and make the edit. I cannot find a workaround for this in Premiere beyond clearing the out mark in the source and it's one of about 1000 inefficiencies marring an otherwise pleasant editing experience on Premiere.

I am having the same prob as the original poster. Spent many years editing on FCP and Avid. Can't believe PP can't do this. Is there any update to this?

Thanks!
