In places where there is no audio in the timeline - for example, where I intentionally leave a gap with no audio - Premiere Pro appears to loop the last previous audio file to cover up the gap. I think this is a feature that is supposed to be helpful - but it's actually really the opposite!
Is there a way to disable it?
At the moment, I'm working with a fix whereby I just lay a long audio track all across my timeline with the volume pushed down to -40. That does the trick, but I'd rather not have to do it.
