I'm using a Windows 10 system with an i7-4790, 16 gb ram, and an nvidia 960 card with 2k memory. The Nvidia 960 cards are in a pretty good price point, and I can more easily afford a second 960 than a significantly more powerful card.

Is Premiere Pro actually written to use multiple GPUs in a useful fashion, or would I be better off just saving for a more powerful single GPU to replace this card?

Premiere Pro can use multiple GPUs for rendering and export, but only a single GPU for playback.
