My colleague has Premiere Pro 5.5 and he wants to be able to read a project I created in PPro CC v8.1. Is that possible? Or can I save it somehow in a way he can read the project?
I'd appreciate any feedback on this.
Thanks, Neil

The only possibility is for you to export XML and him to import.

But only a little more than basic edits transitions and effects will translate using this method...

so some work would have to be done on his end to finesse the project back to looking like something you've done...

and many effects you may have used won't necessarily be available to him.

That's very helpful, thanks a lot Alex. So on your point about exporting in XML, I see Final Cut Pro XML as a choice. Is that what you mean? And I hear you on the drawbacks there. Just to confirm I'm not crazy, below is what he thought was possible, which I'm understanding you to say is incorrect?

'Should be able to save a downward-compatible version and create a new project with all files collected into a single folder within the project.'

What we're trying to do is for me to share a template project with him he can you as a model for some things he's doing. I suspect it would be easier for him to start from scratch right?

Thanks again.

[Neil Orman] "I suspect it would be easier for him to start from scratch right?"

Easier even then that would be for the one of you using CC 2014 to upgrade to CC 2015.

Thanks David. How would that help?

It's certainly a whole lot easier to collaborate and to share projects with users if you have the same versions of CC running.

[Neil Orman] "'Should be able to save a downward-compatible version and create a new project with all files collected into a single folder within the project.'"

Unlike, say Illustrator, which allows saving backward compatible versions, PPro does not allow this.
