Hi all,

So I've made an animation in After Effects which I've then imported into Premiere Pro, and no matter what settings I render the finished product into, the graphics on the resulting video is extremely laggy/choppy/slow. I've tried exporting it in loads of different settings, I've tried importing it into Premiere Pro as an After Effects file, or as a rendered video of various settings - nothing changes this lagginess.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thank you!

Hi Daniel....

need some clarity....

Are your clips:

1) some sort of movie with an alpha channel for layering over other vids
2) Just vids?
3) Dynamically link AE comps?

They're a combination of the latter two - I'm combining mp4 footage with a dynamically linked AE composition. But I've also tried rendering out the AE composition in After Effects to mp4, importing that file into Premiere Pro instead of the AE composition, and neither makes a difference to the laggy appearance of the finished rendered Premiere Pro movie.

Hope that helps..

Thanks :)

What resolution?

Is ProRes an option to render to or are you on Windows?

Resolution is HDTV 1080 24, and I'm on a mac but not using ProRes since I don't have Final Cut or Motion.

Hmmm....

issues tend to center around whether the compression is making the computer work hard or the data rate of the encode is too high for the disk it's playing back from.

mp4 so is sooo configurable, it could be either of those two things....

what are the properties of the video you are combining it with?

does that play ok?

what kind of drive is it playing off of?

The computer is a 2015 Macbook Pro 13" with 2.7GHz Intel Core i5, so not outrageous but definitely good enough...

The video I'm combining it with 1064 by 768, fairly low quality. It's impossible to say whether it does or doesn't play well because of the nature of the video - it's a recording to a static powerpoint presentation, so nothing really needs to 'move' smoothly. The frame rate on this video is something like 4. I can't imagine this video is the problem.

Also when I export the animation straight from After Effects, the resulting video plays completely smoothly. It's only when I try and put it into Premiere Pro and export it from there that I have a problem...

...The frame rate was set to 10. Now I feel silly.

Thank you!
